Globalworth has obtained a permit to renovate and rebuild the Renoma Department Store located in Wrocław, Poland. The iconic building is to undergo a metamorphosis giving it a new design and a new range of stores.
Renoma is an architectural icon and a prominent historic building in Wrocław. Therefore, the concept design for the future changes was entrusted to a team of renowned architects, led by Zbigniew Maćków. The building’s future interior will resemble the architecture of the historic Wertheim Department Store. To recreate the design details that the building used to have in the past, the investor will be closely supervised by the city monument conservation officer
The works are planned to start in Q4 this year. To avoid disturbing shoppers, the renovations will be done in several stages and will last about two years.
“Since Renoma is the pearl of Wrocław architecture, it deserves to be turned into a majestic building. Not only that we are going to pay attention to its retail and services, including food and beverages, but we are also going to improve the building by adding modern office spaces. Moreover, we intend to bring Plac Czysty square back to life. Restaurants with gardens, for example, will be an improvement that will transform it into a vibrant place,” says Barbara Wójcik, Senior Asset Manager at Globalworth Poland.
The new Renoma will not only have additional office spaces, but it will also include a food area with restaurants, bars, bistros. The design was inspired by Hala Koszyki, the culinary centre of Warsaw, owned and managed by Globalworth.
“Our great culinary experience with Hala Koszyki will be used in the transformation of Renoma. Our plan is to place the retail, culinary, and service areas on the ground floor and the first underground level. The upper floors will be set aside for modern office space,” explains Anna Merta, Leasing Director Retail at Globalworth Poland.
The transformation of Renoma started in 2018 with over a thousand people surveyed in Wrocław. The results have completely been integrated in the new plans. Shoppers in Wrocław will still enjoy a premium fashion section with well-known brands, but, in addition, they will find here office spaces, restaurants, bars and many other useful services.
“We hope that the new Renoma will meet people’s expectations in Wrocław. It’s an iconic building in a beautiful location, which stands out with timeless architectural design. Therefore, we want to keep the line in designing and extending a food and drink area, which will be connected to Plac Czysty and Plac Kościuszki”, says Zbigniew Maćków, who led the architectural team between 2005 and 2009.
Renoma was built in 1930 and is one of Poland’s most prominent retail buildings. After being extended and upgraded in 2009, the property was put into use with over 120 stores and service points opened on the two lowest levels. The floors above are taken up by offices & restaurant sections. Along with Hala Koszyki in Warsaw and Supersam in Katowice, Renoma is the third mixed-use development in the Globalworth Poland portfolio.
